Helpful Neurodevelopmental Assessments
Parents are encouraged to bring detailed notes that describe their concerns. Results of previous evaluations are helpful if parents wish to share them. The first visit is very important, so we want to make sure that we are as prepared as we possibly can be.
Our neurodevelopmental assessment usually takes an hour and a half to two hours, and it is often followed by an informational visit to review the findings. During the assessment, we obtain a comprehensive medical and developmental history.
We also perform thorough physical and neurological examinations. We request neurodiagnostic testing and laboratory examinations when they are appropriate.
Neurodevelopmental testing assesses the underlying functions of attention, memory, language, behavior, fine motor, gross motor skills, and play. This is usually done using a variety of measures and questionnaires that are obtained from the parents, guardians, schools, and other personnel.
